DescriptionA good, Victorian gentleman's, size 18, American Waltham sterling silver cased Pocket Watch dating from c1878. This watch is a good example, in nice condition and in good working order. The English made, sterling silver case is in good condition, all covers opening and closing tightly as they should. It has full English hallmarks for sterling silver. The maker's mark "AB" for the Waltham Watch Company (Alfred Bedford was the manager of the Waltham Watch Co, Holborn Circus, London), the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the anchor Birmingham town mark and the date letter "d" for 1878/79. The rear of the case with engine turned engraving and a central cartouche that is free of initials. The case in very good overall condition, with some minor wear consistent with age. The white enamel dial is in very good condition. It has the hours in Arabic numerals and a sub-seconds dial at six o'clock. The good quality, full plate, Martyn Square, 7 jewel, Waltham Lever movement is in excellent working order. It is key wind and key set, with the key provided. The watch measures 53mm in diameter (across the case, excluding the winding crown). Overall, this is a very good example, it would make a lovely addition to any collection.
