DescriptionA lovely pair of Antique, late Victorian, English Silver Cased Binoculars /Opera Glasses made for Le Jockey Club, Paris by Henry Charles Kerly and dating from c1898.
The Jockey Club de Paris is best remembered as a gathering of the elite of nineteenth-century French society. The club still exists at 2 Rue Rabelais, and hosts the International Federation of Racing Authorities. It is a traditional gentlemen's club regarded as one of the most prestigious clubs in Paris.
The silver case hallmarked with the maker's mark "H.C.K" for Henry Charles Kerly (Powell Street, King Square, London EC), the lion passant sterling silver mark, the Birmingham town mark and date letter "y" for 1898/99.
The rim of the eye pieces with the club name "Le Jockey Club, Paris".
They are in good condition but do have a few dents (see photos), mainly around the rims, they have been used.
