Description9CT Gold Half Hunter Pocket Watch owned by Mr George H Allan. An immaculate 9CT Gold Half Hunter Pocket Watch. The watch has a good quality Helvetia 15 Jewel Swiss made movement. The English made 9CT solid gold case by the Dennison Watch Case Company. It is hallmarked with "9" and ".375" for 9 carat gold, the Birmingham town mark, the maker's mark "ALD" for A L Dennison and date letter "S" for 1917/18. The front cover with the hours in Roman numerals in nice blue enamel. The white enamel dial with the maker's name "Helvetia" and also "Swiss Made", complimented by a lovely set of original blue steel hands. The good quality movement signed "Helvetia" and "Swiss made, 15 Jewels" It measures 49mm in diameter. The weight is 98.2g. PROVENANCE: The watch is a "50 Year" presentation Pocket Watch. The inner cuvette (dustcover) engraved : "Presented by Colvilles Limited to Mr George H Allan on completion of Fifty Years Service, May 1948". The rear cover has the former owner's initials engraved "GHA". The watch was presented to Mr George H Allan, retiring Office Manager at Clydebridge Steel Works, by Sir John Craig, Chairman of Colvilles at a function on Friday 28th May 1948. I have a photograph of an article relating to this, with a picture of Mr Allan being presented with the watch. The article will be sent to the buyer. Colvilles Limited were a Scottish Steel and Iron Works Company founded by David Colville. In 1860, as joint-partner in the firm of Colville & Gray, he established the Clifton Iron Works at Coatbridge. Ten years later when his initial partnership had come to an end David Colville established the Dalzel Works at Motherwell.
