Sterling Silver Tea Set, R E Stone Edinburgh c1938
DescriptionA very nice Sterling Silver Four Piece Tea Set made by Robert Edgar Stone, hallmarked in Edinburgh and dating from 1938.
Robert Edgar Stone (1903 - 1990)was one of the most important and skilful British silversmiths of the 20th century and there is a strong demand by collectors for his work. R E Stone founded his own workshop in London in 1929. He made items for a number of highly regarded firms such as Asprey, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, Hamilton & Inches. He often stamped his pieces with a facsimilie signature as can be seen on this set.
All items are hallmarked with the maker's mark "R.E.S" for Robert Edgar Stone, the Scottish "thistle" sterling silver mark, the Edinburgh "castle" town mark and date letter "H" for 1938/39, above his facsimilie signature "R E Stone".
The set is in very good, used condition, the coffee pot has a couple of indents.
The combined weight of the set is approximately 1478g/52oz
