Victorian Silver Corinthian Column Candlesticks
DescriptionA pair of antique, Victorian English Silver Candlesticks made J Sherwood & Sons Ltd, Regent Works, Regent Street, Birmingham and dating from c1899.
They are hallmarked with the maker's mark "JS&S" for J Sherwood & Sons Ltd, the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the anchor town mark for Birmingham and date letter "Z" for 1899/1900.
The bases are "loaded". This is common with candlesticks where a heavier infill is added to the base in order to increase stability and to prevent them toppling over for obvious safety reasons.
They measure approx. 7 1/4" inches (185mm) in height, the bases 3 1/2" inches (90mm) square.
They are in reasonably good overall condition, but do have some imperfections There are dents around the rim of the base and one of them has some of the base infill missing from a corner on the underneath. Also one of the sconces has a number of indents.
