George III, English Silver Teapot Stand, c1798
DescriptionA good Antique, 18th Century, George III, Sterling Silver Teapot Stand made by Samuel Godbehere & Edward Wigan in London and dating from c1798.
It is hallmarked with the maker's mark "SG/EW" for Samuel Godbehere & Edward Wigan, the Lion Passant Sterling Silver mark, the crowned Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter "C" for 1798/99.
The tray is supported on four feet. It has a decorative, engraved border and a central wreath. Probable erasure of original engraved initials to centre.
The oval shaped stand measures 8" inches (203mm) x 5 1/2" inches (138mm). The weight is 174.0g/6.14ozoz/5.60ozt.
It is in very good condition with only very light surface scratches.
