A very good Scottish Provincial Silver Serving Spoon or large Tablespoon made by James Erskine of Aberdeen and dating from c1795. James Erskine is recorded as working in Aberdeen c1792 - 1816. It is hallmarked with the maker's mark "E" and the "hand and dagger" for James Erskine alongside the "three turrets" town mark for Aberdeen. The spoon would have originally have been one of a set of twelve, the terminal has the initial "A" engraved above the number 11. The spoon is in very good overall condition. It measures 9" inches (230mm) in length.

A very good Scottish Provincial Silver Serving Spoon or large Tablespoon made by James Erskine of Aberdeen and dating from c1795. James Erskine is recorded as working in Aberdeen c1792 - 1816. Scottish Provincial Silver Serving Spoon, Aberdeen
A rare Antique, Early Victorian, Scottish Silver Ceremonial Presentation Trowel made by A McDonald, Glasgow and dating from c1853. The trowel is hallmarked with the maker's mark "AMcD" for A McDonald, the monarch's head duty mark (Queen Victoria), the Lion Rampant Scottish sterling silver mark, the Glasgow town mark and date letter "h" for 1852/53. This trowel was presented to a member of an important Ayrshire family Humphrey Walter Campbell of Crosslet (Sheriff-Substitute of Dumbartonshire). It bears the following inscription "This model of the trowel used at the laying of the Foundation Stone of Dennystoun Dumbarton on 20th May 1853 Presented by Wm. Denny, Ironship Builder, Dumbarton to H W Campbell Esq., of Crosslet, Sheriff Substitute of Dumbartonshire and Provincial Grand Master for Dumbarton of the Order of Freemasons. As a rememberance of the honor done the Undertaking by the Freemasons and other bodies who took a part in the Ceremony especially of the Highly Esteemed Courtesy of the Provincial Grand Master." The above inscription surrounded by masonic symbols. The underside of the trowel also with an engraved masonic symbol. This is a rare and lovely example of a very good quality presentation trowel that is in very good condition. It measures approximately 11 1/2" inches (300mm) in length overall. The blade approximately 7 1/2" inches (190mm). Provenance This presentation trowel is one of two related presentation trowels that I currently have for sale. The trowels were presented to different members of an important Ayrshire family the Campbells of Barnhill. The family included Humphrey Walter Campbell of Crosslet (Sheriff-Substitute of Dumbartonshire) (1782-1864) and Neil Colquhoun Campbell (Sheriff of Ayrshire) (1813-1883) Humphrey Walter Campbell of Crosslet, was born at Dumbarton on the 4th of March 1782. He was appointed Registrar of Sasines for the counties of Argyll and Dumbarton in 1810, and was created Sheriff-Substitute for Dumbartonshire in 1820. He died at Crosslet House on the 15th of May, 1864, aged 82. Neil Colquhoun Campbell of Barnhill, was born on the 17th of October, 1813. He was appointed Sheriff of Ayrshire. He married Mary Paterson, daughter of William Orr Paterson of Montgomerie, Ayrshire. He died on the 3rd of April, 1883, and the Barnhill estate passed to his daughter, Annie Colquhoun Campbell. There is an imposing Memorial to the Campbells of Barnhill situated at the western edge of Dumbarton Cemetery.

Important Scottish Silver Masonic Trowel c1853
A rare, early George III, Scottish Sterling Silver Sauce Boat made by Patrick Robertson of Edinburgh and dating from c1770. Patrick Robertson is recorded as working in Edinburgh c1769 to 1790. The plain silver sauce boat is hallmarked on the underside of the base with the maker's mark "PR" for Patrick Robertson and on the rim of the base with the Scottish thistle sterling silver mark, the Edinburgh castle town mark and date letter, difficult to read but probably "R" for 1771/72. The sauce boat measures 7" inches (180mm) in length. The weight is 188.5g/6.64oz/6.06ozt. It is in very good condition.

Rare Scottish Silver Sauce Boat, Edinburgh c1770
A good quality, Antique, George III, Scottish Sterling Silver Punch or Toddy Ladle made by George Fenwick, Edinburgh and dating from c1815. The ladle has a sterling silver bowl and finial with a baleen stem. The underside of the bowl engraved with a nice family crest for the Clan Sinclair. The ladle is hallmarked with the maker's mark "GF" for George Fenwick, the Scottish thistle silver mark, the Monarchs's Head duty mark, the Edinburgh castle town mark and date letter "j" for 1815/16. It measures just under 6 1/2" inches (165mm) in length. It has a lovely, deep, circular bowl measuring 1 1/2" inches (42mm) in diameter. The Ladle is in excellent condition.

George III, Scottish Punch or Toddy Ladle c1815
A Scottish Provincial Silver, small Sauce Ladle made in Montrose by William Mill and dating from c1820. There is an engraved initials "JEW" on the handle. The ladle is hallmarked with the maker's initials "WM" for William Mill (struck three times) and the "rose" town mark for Montrose (struck twice). It measures just under 5 1/2" inches (140mm) in length. The bowl is 1 1/4" inches (31mm) in diameter. It is in excellent condition. William Mill is recorded as working in Montrose c1815 - 1820.

A good pair of Scottish Provincial Silver Wishbone Sugar Tongs by William J Fraser of Ballater. They are hallmarked with the Edinburgh Castle town mark, the Scottish thistle silver mark and date letter "A" 1931/32, above the maker's mark "W.J.F" for William James Fraser of Ballater. After the death of William Robb his Ballater shop was left to his daughter, later taken over by Fraser. Fraser continued to produce many of the silver items made popular by William Robb, such as these tongs.

A very good and rare Set of Six Scottish Provincial Silver Teaspoons made in Banff by William Simpson and dating from c1830. William Simpson is recorded as working in Banff c1825-1855. All spoons have a very good set of cleat marks, with the Maker's Mark "WS" for William Simpson, the "thistle" mark and Letter "B" for Banff. They have engraved initials. It is relatively rare to find a good set of Banff spoons, with all spoons in good condition and clear marks. They measure approximately 5 3/4" inches (145mm) in length. The total weight is 82.6g/2.91oz/2.65ozt.

Rare Set Scottish Provincial Silver Spoons, Banff
A very nice Sterling Silver Four Piece Tea Set made by Robert Edgar Stone, hallmarked in Edinburgh and dating from 1938. Robert Edgar Stone (1903 - 1990)was one of the most important and skilful British silversmiths of the 20th century and there is a strong demand by collectors for his work. R E Stone founded his own workshop in London in 1929. He made items for a number of highly regarded firms such as Asprey, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, Hamilton & Inches. He often stamped his pieces with a facsimilie signature as can be seen on this set. All items are hallmarked with the maker's mark "R.E.S" for Robert Edgar Stone, the Scottish "thistle" sterling silver mark, the Edinburgh "castle" town mark and date letter "H" for 1938/39, above his facsimilie signature "R E Stone". The set is in very good, used condition, the coffee pot has a couple of indents. The combined weight of the set is approximately 1478g/52oz

A superb, rare, pair of Scottish Provincial Silver Serving Spoons or Tablespoons made By John Keith of Banff. The spoons have engraved initials (see photo) They are marked with the maker's mark "IK" for John Keith and the letter "B" for Banff. John Keith is recorded in Jackson's Silver as working in Banff c1794 to 1824. At 8 1/2" inches (220mm) in length these spoons would make a very nice pair of serving spoons.
