ENGLISH SILVER NAPKIN RING, COLDSTREAM GUARDS, SIR A F SMITH, Lt. The silver napkin ring has an interesting provenance: It was originally owned by Lieutenant General Sir Arthur Francis Smith, KCB, KBE, DSO, MC (9 Dec 1890 – 8 Aug 1977) who served in the Coldstream Guards. It was later passed down to his son, Geoffrey Arthur Granville Smith (1926-1953), who was a Captain in the Coldstream Guards. Geoffrey Arthur Granville Smith died on 18 September 1953 at age 27, following an accident. Following his death the napkin ring was gifted to his cousin Mary. Inside the box is a rather poignant letter written by Geoffrey's mother to Mary, passing on the napkin ring as a memento. The letter with their home address Pirbright lodge, Woking, Surrey and dated 18th March 1954. A lovely historical item, in excellent condition, a nice addition to any collection.
