A Victorian Silver Ceremonial Presentation Trowel made in Birmingham and dating from 1867.
The trowel is hallmarked with the maker's mark "T.S" for Thomas Smily, the monarch's head duty mark (Queen Victoria), the Lion Passant silver mark, the Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter "l" for 1866/67. It is also stamped to the rear with the retailer's name "Hall & Co., Manchester."
It bears the following inscription
"Presented to George Slater Esq., on the occasion of his laying the Foundation Stone of the United Methodist Free Church, Barnton, June 5th 1867."
The English village of Barnton is located in Cheshire just south west of Manchester.
This is a lovely example of a very good quality presentation trowel that is in very good condition. The collar to the finial on the handle has a small part that has been chipped off. A minor imperfection (see photo).
It measures approximately 11 1/2" inches (290mm) in length overall. The blade approximately 6 1/2" inches (165mm).

A superb Antique, Victorian English Sterling Silver mounted, cut glass, Claret Jug made by Charles Edwards in London and dating from c1891.
It is hallmarked with the maker's mark for "CE" for Charles Edwards, the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter "Q" for 1891/92.
It measures 11 3/4" inches (300mm) in height.
