DescriptionA very good quality, Antique, George III, Sterling Silver Presentation Salver/Tray made by George Fenwick, Edinburgh and dating from c1809. The tray has a very nice presentation inscription to the centre, surrounded by Scottish thistles: Adjudged by the Highland Society of Scotland, to Sir Benjn. Dunbar of Hempriggs Bart., For the Best Bull the property of any person in the County of Caithnefs, Exhibited at the competition at Spittalhill in 1806". Sir Benjamin Dunbar of Hempriggs, 3rd Baronet, was born in 1761. It is hallmarked with the maker's mark "GF" for George Fenwick, Edinburgh, the Monarch's Head duty mark, the Scottish "thistle" sterling silver mark, the "Castle" Edinburgh town mark and date letter "d" for 1809/10. The heavy gauge, circular tray is supported on three bracket feet. The tray measures 11" inches (280mm) in diameter. The weight is 648g/22.9oz. It is in very good condition with very minimal light scratches/wear through normal use commensurate with age.
