Transvaal 9CT Gold Miner's Sweetheart Brooch
DescriptionA very nice, Antique, 9CT Gold Victorian South African Transvaal Gold Miner's Sweetheart brooch/pendant.
The brooch/pendant modeled in the form of a miner's spade and pick-axe with a gold nugget to the centre entwined with a rope.
It is stamped to the rear "9CT" for 9 carat gold. There is a pin and suspension loop enabling the item to be worn as a brooch or pendant.
The brooch measures approximately 47mm in length.
The South African "gold rush" started in the Transvaal area in 1886 when gold was discovered by a miner.
