Set Four Traprain Law Scottish Silver Goblets

Set Four Traprain Law Scottish Silver Goblets

DescriptionA Set of Four Traprain Law Scottish Silver Goblets by Brook & Son, Edinburgh. During excavations in 1919 an archaeological team discovered a hoard of Roman Silver at Traprain Law, near Edinburgh, believed to have been buried around the middle of the 5th Century AD. The hoard is on display at the National Museums of Scotland in Edinburgh. The picture of the hoard on their website shows goblets of a similar design to these. Brook & Son of Edinburgh were the silversmiths used to restore the haul and subsequently they made copies under license. They are hallmarked on the underside of the base with the maker's name "Brook & Son, Edinburgh", the Scottish thistle sterling silver mark, the castle Edinburgh town mark and date letter "Z" for 1930/31. They have an engraved crest with the Latin motto "Delectat et Ornat". They measure 2 1/2" inches (63mm) in height. The base 2" inches (51mm) in diameter, the top 1 3/4" inches (45mm) in diameter. The total weight is 234.6g/8.27oz/7.54ozt
